Lincoln, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team fell 5-2 to UMKC Friday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 4-6 (0-0 Summit League) overall, while the Kangaroos improve to 5-2 (0-0 WAC).
UMKC edged Omaha 2-1 in doubles action to claim the point. Freshman Nathan Reekie and sophomore Matt Dunn dropped a close match at No. 2, 6-4. Freshman Razvan Grigorescu and senior Colin Buckley evened things up with a 6-3 win over Uldis Gaismines and Amaury Navette at No. 1. Sophomore Alex Woodward and senior John Ellis lost a tight match at No. 3, 6-4.
The Kangaroos went on top with singles wins at No. 2 and No. 6. Reekie put Omaha on the board with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3. UMKC won competitive matches at No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the match. Grigorescu gave Omaha its second point of the night with a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (5) win at No. 1 singles.
Omaha returns home next weekend, hosting Central (IA) College at 3 p.m. and Hastings at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3. Both matches will be held at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
