NEWTON, Kan. –
Mitch Ryan shot an opening-round score of 73 to lead the Omaha men's golf team to second place at the Summit League Championship.
The Mavericks posted a score of 304 over the first 18 holes at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course and sit 12 strokes behind South Dakota State at 292. Fort Wayne is third at 305.
Ryan was strongest after the turn, carding three birdies on the back side. He is currently tied for fifth in the field of 45 golfers.
Ben Maskus is tied for 11th after shooting 75 in round one. He also was sharp down the stretch with birdies on two of the last three holes.
Kevin Gordon is third for UNO and tied for 15th after shooting 76.
Cameron MacGregor and
Sam Musch are four strokes back and tied for 30th overall after matching rounds of 80.
The second round of the three-round tournament begins on Monday at 8 a.m. with the first of the Mavericks scheduled to tee off at 9:40 a.m.
