GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Omaha men's golf team is tied with fellow Summit League member Denver for 17th after the first two rounds of the Desert Shootout.
The Mavericks have a team score of 589 through the first 36 holes of the event being hosted by DU and Northern Colorado. Iowa State leads the 20-team field with a score of 551, four-strokes ahead of second-place Kansas. UMKC is third at 558.
Ben Maskus led the Mavericks on day one with a one-over-par tally of 145 after going two-under 70 in the first round and then shooting a three-over score of 75 in the second 18. He's tied for 54th overall in the field of 116. His first-round score is a team season low.
Miles Russell is just one stroke back at 146 after carding rounds of 74 and even-par 72, good for a tie for 61st. Two strokes back is teammate
Cameron MacGregor who is tied for 77th overall after rounds of 71 and 77 for a score of 148.
Mitch Ryan is fourth for UNO and tied for 98th overall with a score of 152 that included rounds of 78 and 74.
Kevin Gordon rounds out the scoring for the Mavericks with rounds of 76 and 77 to put him at 153 good for a tie for 103rd.
UNO's first round team score of 291 is a season low.
The final round is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. CT at Palm Valley Golf Club.
