As a team, Omaha shot 43 percent (28-of-65) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from 3-point range and 70 percent (14-of-20) at the free throw line. South Dakota State finished at 60 percent (34-of-57) from the floor, 42 percent (8-of-19) behind the arc and 58 percent (11-of-19) at the stripe. The Jacks also had the advantage in rebounding (39-29) and blocks (4-3), while UNO finished ahead in steals (7-4) and turnovers forced (13-8).
George Marshall and Deondre Parks did much of SDSU's scoring damage, totaling 28 and 22 points, respectively. Mike Daum added another 16 points.
Marshall and Parks made the difference for South Dakota State in the first half, combining for 27 of the Jacks' 41 points. Marshall shot 7-of-10, and Parks came in at 4-of-4 from the floor. Smallwood led the Mavericks off the bench, however, hitting three 3-pointers for nine points. SDSU led early and built a 39-26 advantage with 4:10 left, then went silent from the field to allow Omaha to chip away at the deficit. Buckets from Patterson and White, along with three Thurman free throws, cut the Jackrabbit lead to 41-35 by halftime.
Omaha started the second half strong, tying the game at 43-43 less than three minutes in with a White layup. SDSU responded with a three from Jake Bittle, after which a nearly four-minute-long scoring drought kept both teams scoreless. The Jacks then hit back-to-back threes from Daum and Parks, part of a 12-0 run that put them ahead 55-43.
South Dakota State took a 14-point lead on a Marshall three with 9:20 and again on an Ian Thesisen layup with 7:52 left, but Smallwood's fifth triple of the night and a steal and a layup from Thurman cut it to 69-61. With 4:28 to go, Hollins drained a three for a 75-66 deficit, but a prompt 3-pointer from Marshall put the Jacks ahead by double digits again. SDSU never allowed the Mavericks to close the gap for the remainder of the contest, taking the 87-76 decision while stretching its home win streak to 25 games.
