Miles Russell's career round helped the Omaha men's golf team to 12th place after the first two rounds of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
Russell had a career-best score of 70 in round one and came back with a 74 in round two and is tied for 25th with a score of 144. His career-best round is also UNO's low individual round of the year.
As a team, the Mavericks shot 294 in the first round, a season low, and 299 in round two to sit at 593. Host SIUE leads with a score of 553. Belmont is second at 562, and Missouri State is at 564, good for third in the field of 15 schools.
Ben Maskus is second for the Mavericks and tied for 54th overall with a score of 148 after rounds of 76 and 72.
Mitch Ryan is one stroke back at 149, carding rounds of 72 and 77 to sit in a tie for 58th.
Kevin Gordon put up rounds of 76 and77 for a total of 153 that has him fourth for the Mavericks and in a tie for 69th overall.
Sam Musch rounded out the scoring for UNO with a score of 156 that included rounds of 80 and 76 to sit in a tie for 76th.
The final round is Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Gateway National Golf Links.
