NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – The Omaha men's golf team opened the season by tying for fifth in its own tournament, the UNO Invitational presented by Health Care Information Systems.
The Mavericks carded a team score of 298 in the final round at ArborLinks to finish at 900, tying them with Nicholls State. Iowa Western won the event with a three-round team score of 877, putting it 10 strokes ahead of runner up Oral Roberts at 887. South Dakota and Indian Hills Community College tied for third at 895.
Mitch Ryan led UNO's scorers with a three round total of 225 after a round of 76 on Tuesday. He finished in a tie for 23rd.
Miles Russell and
Kevin Gordon tied for 34th with scores of 228. Both players carded rounds of 74 in the final round.
Phillip Baumberger and
Ben Maskus were one shot back of Russell and Gordon at 229. Baumberger finished with a score of 78 while Maskus had UNO's third 74 of the day. They tied for 39th.
Sam Musch, playing as an individual, finished with UNO's low score for the tournament at 222 after a final round of 76. He was 13th in the field of 75.
Kobi Boe, also playing as an individual, had a 54-hole score of 255 after a round of 89 on Tuesday.
The Mavericks return to action on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22 at the South Dakota Coyote Classic at Sioux City, S.D.
