Karl Krieser shot an opening round 77 to lead the Omaha men's golf team on the first day of play at the Summit League Championship.
The Mavericks carded a team score of 316, putting them in eighth place in the nine-team tournament, but they are just six strokes out of fourth place. Oral Roberts leads after the first 18 holes with a score of 299. That puts it six strokes ahead of Denver. South Dakota is third at 308.
Krieser is in a tie for ninth, one stroke ahead of teammate
Phillip Baumberger who is tied for 13th overall.
Alex Holtan shot 80 in the first round, putting him third in scoring for the Mavericks and in a tie for 28th in the 45-player tournament.
Caleb Haight is one stroke back at 81, good for a tie for 33rd.
Taylor Sidzyik completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a round of 86 that puts him in a tie for 43rd.
The second round begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT at La Purisima Golf Course.
