Box Score MACOMB, Ill. -- The Omaha baseball team saw its ninth-inning lead erased on Sunday, as Western Illinois escaped with a 5-4 walkoff win at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 18-28 (12-15 Summit League) on the season, while the Leathernecks improve to 17-30 (11-16 Summit League).
Tyler Owings (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for Western, keeping Omaha to one hit in 1.0 inning pitched. Junior right-hander
Marcus Ethen (1-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeout.

Alex Schultz led the way at the dish, finishing 3-for-5 with his third home run of the season and three RBI. Senior
Daniel Jewett was also 2-for-2, part of the Mavericks' 11 total hits as a team.
Western Illinois got on the board first in the fourth inning, sparked by Colton Pogue's leadoff homer. JJ Reimer then got on with a single to right and eventually scored on Adam McGinnis's RBI groundout for a 2-0 Leatherneck lead.
UNO broke it open in the sixth, plating four runs on three hits. Jewett and sophomore
Mark Handberg both reached with singles, and redshirt freshman
Isaac Holt walked, loading the bases with no outs. Two batters later, junior
Collin Leif reached on a fielder's choice to score Handberg, cutting the score to 2-1. Schultz then delivered a three-run homer that put the Mavericks ahead, 4-2.
The Leathernecks chipped away at Omaha's lead in the eighth when Reimer's RBI single up the middle drove in Pogue to make it 4-3. With UNO clinging to a one-run lead entering the bottom of the ninth, Western loaded the bases with a double by McGinnis, a bunt single by Roman Visintine and another single from Kendall King. Brent Turner then singled through the right side to score McGinnis and Visintine, sealing Western's walkoff win at 5-4.
Omaha returns to action on Thursday, May 14, opening a three-game weekend series at North Dakota State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. in Fargo, N.D., and links to live stats and video will be available on OMavs.com.
