TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha men's golf team played through heavy rain and wind to put itself in contention after the first day of the ORU Shootout at Oral Roberts.

The Mavericks are tied for eighth with a team score of 319, just eight strokes behind leader Midland Community College.  Creighton and Missouri State are tied for second at 314.  The 14 teams in the tournament played just 18 holes because of the weather.  The final round begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Forest Ridge Golf Course.

Karl Krieser led the Mavericks on day one with a score of 77, putting him in a tie for eighth overall in the field of 76 golfers.

Caleb Haight is second for the Mavericks and is tied for 26th overall after a score of 80 over the first 18 holes.  Taylor Sidzyik and Alex Holtan are tied for third on the team just one stroke back, putting them in a tie for 36th.

Phillip Baumberger carded a score of 82 and is tied for 48th.  Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, shot a score of 89 and is tied for 70th.
