OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Nebraska-Kearney on Wednesday afternoon at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The loss drops the Mavs to 3-8 overall, while the Lopers improve to 9-1.
Nebraska-Kearney earned the doubles point as all three matches went down to the wire. John Ellis and Marko Minic lost a close 8-6 match to Mohab El Zanaty and Justin Nguyen at No. 3. At No. 1, Nathan Greteman and Colin Buckley fell to Joey Richards and Lucas Garces, 8-5. Ignace Warson and Erik Anderson lost in a tie breaker to Georges Wakim and Jack Nicholson at No. 3, 8-7 (4).
Three matches did not complete with the outcome already determined. Buckley had split sets with Richards at No. 1 singles 4-6, 6-4. Anderson was preparing for a third set against Garces at No. 2 singles 2-6, 6-4. Warson has split sets with Aaron Reekie at No. 5 singles 6-2, 5-7.
Among the singles matches that did complete, Minic lost a thrilling three set match against Wakim at No. 3 singles 7-5, 3-6, and 6-1. Ellis dropped a close two set match to El Zanaty at No. 4 singles 7-6 (4), 7-5. Nicholson defeated Greteman at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-1.
Omaha travels to Madison, Wisc. for a match against the University of Wisconsin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.
