DELHI, Louisiana –
Karl Krieser shot a school record 54-hole score to lead the Omaha men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Wallace Jones Invitational at Louisiana Monroe on Tuesday.
Krieser shot a three-round score of 214, besting his previous school record by one stroke, to finish in a tie for fifth in the 88-player field. After shooting 73 and a school-record 18-hole score of 67 yesterday, he finished with a round of 74 at the Black Bear Golf Course. The three-round total score is just the second under-par total (-2) in a 54-hole event in UNO's Division I era.
The Mavericks finished with a team score of 881, one stroke better than the previous school record for a 54-hole tournament. Host Louisiana Monroe and Arkansas Little Rock tied for first with scores of 861. Louisiana Tech was third at 867.
Phillip Baumberger was second in scoring for the Mavericks and tied for 23rd overall with a tally of 221 that included a round of 74 on Tuesday. It was a career-best 54-hole score for the freshman.
Taylor Sidzyik was third for the Mavs, shooting 75 in round three to finish at 222, a season best. He tied for 27th overall.
Caleb Haight, playing in his first tournament of the spring, had a career-best 54-hole total of 226 including a final round of 73, best on the team for the day. He tied for 44th overall.
Alex Holtan also shot 74 in round three to finish at 232, good for a tie for 69th.
Lucas Gervais, playing as an individual, finished at 254 after a final round score of 82.
The Mavericks return to the course at the UALR First Tee Classic on March 30-31.
