Box Score PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Omaha baseball team faced Kentucky in a rematch at the Snowbird Classic on Saturday, falling 5-1 at North Charlotte Regional Park. The Mavericks are now 5-6 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-3 (0-0 SEC).
The win went to preseason All-American Kyle Cody (1-1), who threw 7.0 hitless, scoreless innings in his start for Kentucky. Cody walked one and struck out nine. The loss went to senior right-hander
Zach Williamsen (1-2), who allowed five runs (three earned) on 11 hits while going 7.0 innings.
UK's pitching staff limited the Mavericks to just two hits for the day, with senior
Daniel Jewett and redshirt freshman
Tim Schaareman finishing with one apiece. Schaareman scored UNO's only run of the day.
Kentucky got on the board in the third, plating three runs on five hits for an early 3-0 lead. The Wildcats added two more runs on two hits and an error in the fifth, extending their advantage to 5-0.
Omaha's only score of the game came in the eighth inning. Schaareman singled up the middle to lead off the inning, then scored on a throwing error to bring the final tally to 5-1.
Omaha returns to action on Sunday, March 1, facing Mount St. Mary's at the Snowbird Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Port Charlotte, Fla.
