PATTERSON, La. – The Omaha men's golf team opened the spring season with a sixth-place finish at the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls State on Tuesday.
The Mavericks finished with a 54-hole team score of 950 in the two-day, eight-team event at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild. South Dakota and Incarnate Word tied for the lead with matching scores of 920 and were declared co-champions. Host Nicholls State was third at 925.
Karl Krieser led the Mavericks with a three-round score of 231 that included a round of 76 on Tuesday. He finished in a three-way tie for eighth in the field of 45 golfers. It marked the fourth time in five team tournaments that he has led the Mavs in scoring.
Phillip Baumberger and
Brandon Sletmoen tied for second for the Mavs and finished in a tie for 26th with scores of 241. Baumberger shot 78 in round three while Sletmoen carded a 79.
Taylor Sidzyik was fourth for UNO with a score of 243 that included a final round of 77, his best of the tournament. He finished in a tie for 32nd overall.
Alex Holtan completed the scoring for UNO with a score of 246 that put him 38th overall. He shot 84 on Tuesday.
After a week off, the Mavericks are back in action at the Sacramento State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 9-10.
