WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Omaha men's golf team is ninth after the first day of play at the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake.
The Mavericks have a team total of 611 after rounds of 309 and 302 on Monday at Glen Oaks Country Club. Northern Iowa leads the field with a score of 586, five strokes ahead of Bradley in second place. South Dakota is third at 595.
Mitch Ryan began with UNO's low round of the day, 70, and followed up with a score of 75 to sit at 145, three over par and good for a tie for fourth.
Ben Maskus is second for the Mavericks and 29th overall with a score of 155. After starting with an 84, he came back with a solid round of 71.
Kevin Gordon is four strokes back at 159 after carding rounds of 81 and 78 to sit in a tie for 41st.
Sam Musch shot 74 in the first round but struggled to an 86 in the afternoon. He's at 160, tying him for 44th.
Miles Russell completed the scoring for UNO with a score of 162, good for a tie for 51st place.
The final round begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
