PROVO, Utah – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to Brigham Young University on Friday evening in Provo, Utah.  The Mavs are now 1-3 on the season, while the Cougars improve to 6-2 on the year.

“We had some good matches today,” commented head coach Tyson Thomas.  “Everyone competed really well. I am very encouraged by how the team did.”

BYU took the first point of the evening by sweeping the doubles competition, 3-0.  The number two doubles team of Ignace Warson and Erik Anderson were defeated by David Ball and Jacob Sullivan, 6-1.  Marko Minic and John Ellis fell 6-3 to Juan Canales and Aidan Carrazedo at number 3 doubles.  Colin Buckley and Nathan Greteman had Robin Pfister and Jeremy Bourgeois on the ropes at number one doubles, but fell 6-4.

Omaha hung with BYU in the singles portion of the competition, but came up short.  Buckley was shut-out by Shane Monroe at number one singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Anderson lost a 6-2, 6-1 match to Bourgeois at number two.  Ellis came up short against Ball at number three, 6-1, 6-2.  James McManus played a close match against Sullivan at number four singles, but fell short 6-3, 6-3.  Minic and Warson dropped their matches at number five and six singles.

Coach Thomas was pleased with the performance from his three doubles teams.  The coach also applauded the singles performances of James McManus and John Ellis.

“We are looking forward to our match tomorrow against Weber State,” said Thomas.  “They are another solid opponent for us and I can't wait to see how we compete against them."

Omaha returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 31 in Ogden, Utah against Weber State.  The match is set for a 4:00 p.m. (CT) start.  The Mavs open Summit League play in Omaha on Friday, Feb. 6 against Western Illinois.  Start time at Miracle Hill Tennis Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
