Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha men's basketball team dropped a Summit League contest to South Dakota State on Wednesday night, falling 86-64 at Frost Arena. The Mavericks are now 8-12 (2-6 Summit League), while the Jackrabbits improve to 16-7 (7-2 Summit League).
Senior forward Mike Rostampour paced the Mavericks with a season-high-tying 18 points and 11 rebounds, marking the seventh double-double of his career and his fourth of the season.
Senior guard CJ Carter added 12 points, two rebounds, four steals, two steals and a block, and freshman forward Tre'Shawn Thurman rounded it out with 10 points alongside four boards. Junior guard Devin Patterson also chipped in eight points, four rebounds, a pair of assists and two steals, and junior forward Jake White notched another seven points.
As a team, Omaha shot .333 (22-of-66) from the field, .188 (3-of-16) from long range and .654 (17-of-26) at the free throw line. South Dakota State finished at .565 (26-of-46) from the floor, .500 (10-of-20) beyond the arc and .828 (24-of-29) at the charity stripe.
SDSU was led by three players scoring in double figures: Deondre Parks (26), Jake Bittle (21) and Cody Larson (15). Larson and Bittle also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds apiece, and Parks shot 7-of-8 for the night, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range.
SDSU shot 8-of-9 – including 5-of-5 behind the arc -- to start the game. Sparked by three early triples from Parks, the Jacks led 23-10 by the 11:17 mark. Rostampour then ripped off 11 straight points for UNO, cutting it to 29-21 with 7:47 until the break. The Mavericks managed to pull within five with just over four minutes to go, as back-to-back scores from Thurman made it 33-28. SDSU, which shot 65 percent (13-of-20) in the first half, outscored UNO 8-4 in the closing minutes to lead 41-31 at the intermission.
Thurman came out of the break with a layup for Omaha that sheared the margin to eight, but South Dakota State quickly took it out to a 17-point lead with a 9-0 run. The Jackrabbits continued their sharp shooting in the second half with a .500 clip, surging to their largest lead at 84-59 with 2:18 to go and picking up the 86-64 win.
