DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. – The Omaha men's golf team is in third place after the first day of play at the South Dakota Coyote Classic at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.
The Mavericks put up a 36-hole team score of 596, just one stroke behind second-place South Dakota. Creighton leads the event with a team score of 591.
Senior
Taylor Sidzyik and freshman
Phillip Baumberger tied for the team scoring lead and are tied for ninth overall with scores of 149. Both players shot 74 in the first round and 75 in the second. For Sidzyik, his round one score was a low for the season.
Brandon Sletmoen is third for UNO and tied for 15th overall at 150, a score that included a one-under round of 71 in round one. The round included three birdies and a bogey for a score that tied his season-low round.
Alex Holtan was fourth for the Mavs and tied for 20th overall at 77-75-152. His second round score included three birdies.
Karl Krieser concluded the scoring for the Mavs at 156. After struggling with an 81 in round one, he rebounded with a card of 75 in round two that included a pair of birdies.
Freshman
Caleb Haight, playing as an individual, shot 160 and is tied for 38th.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
