Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team faced in-state foe Nebraska for the first time in 14 years on Wednesday night, falling 17-6 at Haymarket Park. The Mavericks are now 16-13 (5-3 Summit League), while the Huskers improve to 25-14 (7-2 Big Ten) with their fifth straight win.
Kyle Kubat (3-2) earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. Over 6.0 innings of work, the junior struck out five and walked one. The loss went to senior left-hander
Anthony Falcone (1-3), who gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks.
Sophomore
Clayton Taylor paced Omaha at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Sophomore
Cole Gruber added two hits and two runs scored, while senior
Brett Bass had two hits and two RBI. Redshirt freshman
Danny Suiter, playing in his hometown of Lincoln, also had two hits for the night.
Nebraska was led by a 4-for-5 showing from Steven Reveles, who scored twice and drove in a run. Michael Pritchard (3-for-4, three runs, three RBI), Austin Darby (3-for-4, two runs, four RBI) and Blake Headley (2-for-4, three runs, one RBI) also had multi-hit games.
The two teams combined for 29 hits on the evening, with Omaha accounting for 12 and Nebraska at 17. It marked the Mavericks' 15th game this season with double-digit hits.
UNO took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, as Gruber and sophomore
Alex Schultz both scored on a one-out Husker error. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Nebraska came back in the bottom of the inning with five runs on four hits and a pair of Maverick errors to go up 5-2.
The second inning saw the Huskers go on an offensive tear, plating 10 runs on 11 hits. Nebraska's first nine runs in the inning were scored with no outs, and in batting around, every NU batter scored at least once in the second frame.
Facing a 15-2 deficit, Omaha responded with three runs in the third. Bass sent an RBI single up the middle to score Gruber, and Schultz crossed with senior
Caleb Palensky's sacrifice fly to right. Splichal then connected on an RBI single to center to score Taylor, making it 15-5.
Nebraska posted a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 17-5. Junior
Zach Williamsen, who entered the game in the third inning for his first relief appearance of the season, threw 3.0 innings and limited NU to one hit with two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore

Josh Bullock and
Dylan Casey each threw one of the final three innings, combining to hold the Huskers scoreless over the last third of the game.
The Mavericks put up their final tally in the eighth, as an RBI double to left center by junior
Daniel Jewett allowed Palensky to score and pushed the final score to 17-6.
