Lincoln, Neb. - The Omaha men's tennis team closed out the 2014 regular season with a 7-0 loss to #68 ranked Nebraska on Friday night at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The loss drops the Mavericks to 6-15 overall while Nebraska improves to 12-11.
Nebraska won all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point, before sweeping the six singles matches in straight sets. The No. 1 doubles match saw Adam Dockery and Eric McKnight fall to Marc Hermann and Dusty Boyer, 8-3 while Tom Blackwell and Beau Treyz defeated Tyler Mercier and Nathan Greteman, 8-5 at No. 2. In No. 3 doubles, Colin Buckley and Erik Anderson were unable to secure a victory falling 8-6 to Charlie Shin and Court Clark.
In the singles matches, McKnight was the toughest match for the host Cornhuskers, as the senior fell at No. 3 to Bradford Zitsch, 6-3.
Omaha will now have two weeks off to prepare for the National Invitational Tennis Tournament April 26-27. The tournament will be played at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha and will feature Omaha, Abilene Christian, Grand Canyon and NJIT.
