Omaha, Neb. - The Omaha men's tennis team snapped a three match losing streak by defeating Chicago State, 5-2 at the Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center on Friday night.
The Mavs improve to 6-11 overall with the win while the visiting Cougars fall to 3-16.
After Eric McKnight and Adam Dockery picked up a win at the No. 1 doubles match 8-4, CSU was able to fight back to win the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Tyler Mercier and Nathan Greteman fell to Rashley Yeremia and Julian Chavez, 8-6 before the Cougars won the point with an 8-7 win over Colin Buckley and James McManus.
Singles competition saw the Mavs win all the matches but the No. 4 singles match to secure the 5-2 win.
Mercier picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sergui Muresan at No. 1 while Dockery defeated Mario Noboa, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2. No. 3 singles saw McKnight outlast Uros Pajic, 7-6 (6-2), 6-2 and McManus was able to defeat Chavez, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 5. Omaha picked up their other point at No. 6 singles with Anderson defeating Yeremia, 6-3, 6-2.
Omaha will be back in action next Friday wth a Summit League match vs. Fort Wayne. Action from the Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center will get underway at 6 p.m.
