Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's soccer team fought valiantly but saw its two-game win streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Wyoming on Sunday at the UNO Soccer Field.
UNO dropped to 2-4 on the season, while Wyoming moved to 3-1-1.
Olivia Mohtadi got Wyoming on the board in the 11th minute. Jennifer Paul dribbled down the center of the field and played a ball to Mohtadi on the left side behind the defense. Mohtadi finished to the low right corner for the 1-0 Cowgirl lead.
Paul got into the scoring column herself in the 20th minute. Liz O'Reilly worked her way into the right side of the box and centered a ball to Paul, who calmly placed it into the middle of the net to make it 2-0.
Hannah Wampler got the Mavs on the board in the 57th minute on a direct kick.
Melanie McCormick was fouled just outside the 18-yard box. Wampler took the kick and ripped it into the upper right corner to cut Wyoming's lead to 2-1.
The Mavs kept attacking and nearly tied the game when
Ava Doetsch's header just glanced wide of the right post. Later,
Chelsi Rohloff forced back-to-back acrobatic saves by Wyoming goalie Alex Boehm with just under 10 minutes to play.
The Mavs spent most of the second half attacking and controlling the pace of the game, but couldn't get the equalizer to show for it. Wyoming outshot Omaha 11-7 overall and 8-5 in shots on goal, but the Mavs had four shots on goal in the second half to three for the Cowgirls.
The Mavericks were coming off a 2-1 comeback win at Northern Iowa on Friday and a 2-0 win over North Dakota last Sunday.
The Mavs are back at home on Friday at the UNO Soccer Field to host Montana at 5 p.m.
