CHICAGO, Ill. - The UNO men's tennis team finished its weekend road trip with a 4-3 win at Chicago State on Sunday.
The Mavericks improved to 5-10 on the season with the win.
Chicago State took the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. UNO's
Eric McKnight and
Connor Larson picked up the Mavs' win at No. 3 with an 8-2 victory over Rashley Yeremia and Luis Ulloa.
In singles play, the Cougars won the top two flights. Sergiu Mureson beat
Conner Tieszen, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1, and Mario Noboa defeated
John Ellis, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2.
But thanks to victories in the final four singles slots, the Mavs were able to grab the team win.
Connor Larson beat Julian Chavez, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. McKnight beat Yeremia, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 5, and Frost knocked off Ulloa, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 6 singles. The match was even at 3-3 with the No. 4 singles match yet to conclude.
Carlos Ramos Salazar earned the decisive point for UNO with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win over Jean Paul Jones.
The Mavs have five matches remaining on their schedule, all at home. UNO hosts Arkansas on Tuesday in a doubleheader. The matches are scheduled to be played indoors at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.
