OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha women's tennis team kicked off a busy week of home matches on Thursday, falling 4-2 to conference peer Oakland at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center. The Mavericks drop to 6-11 (1-2 Summit League), while the Golden Grizzlies improve to 5-12 (3-3 Summit League).
Omaha started the match strong, winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. Molly Matricardi and Tiffany Hottman defeated Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara, 8-5, at No. 2, followed by another win at No. 3 from Jacqueline Baude and Rachel Pierson over Cam Sabourin and Grace Keating, 8-6.
The Golden Grizzlies, however, rebounded in singles play, tallying four wins at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to capture the match win, 4-2. Omaha's only finished singles win came at No. 1, where Alex Tran downed Emily Raidt in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
UNO is back in action on Friday, April 12, hosting IUPUI at 8 a.m. and South Dakota State at 12:30 p.m. at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.
