OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO men's tennis team lost 5-0 to two-time defending Summit League champion Kansas City on Wednesday at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.
The Mavericks now stand at 5-13 overall and 0-4 in The Summit League. UMKC improved to 10-10 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Two singles matches and one doubles match did not complete with the outcome already determined. In No. 1 doubles play, UNO's
Conner Tieszen and
Matt Frost led Grant Fleming and Tomas Patino, 6-5, before the match ended with the Kangaroos having already locked up the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches.
In No. 4 singles,
Eric McKnight was tied with Patino, 6-6, in the first set when it ended. Andrey Smirnov led
Carlos Ramos Salazar at No. 5, 7-5, 2-0.
Among the matches that did complete, the Kangaroos won all of them in straight sets. Nino Hasandedic beat Tieszen, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1. Abdul Alawadhi beat
John Ellis, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Fleming defeated
Connor Larson, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, and Tim Akhmedov topped Frost, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
The Mavericks host South Dakota State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the final Summit League match of the season.
