Final Stats
OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO men's tennis team fell to Creighton on Friday, 5-2, at Koch Tennis Center.
It was the first outdoor match for the Mavericks (4-7) this spring. Creighton improved to 6-4.
Creighton won Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to take the doubles point. Ryan Norman and Nick Thompson picked up an 8-6 win over
Conner Tieszen and
Carlos Ramos Salazar, and Elliott Baker and August Nysted beat
Nathan Greteman and
Matt Frost, 8-1. At No. 2 doubles,
Eric McKnight and
John Ellis led Sean Mathison and Brandon Lee 7-6 when it became inconsequential to the doubles point.
Tieszen controlled his No. 1 singles match, beating Norman, 6-2, 6-2, to tie the team score at 1-1. Lee beat Ramos Salazar at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2, to give Crieghton a 2-1 lead. Mathison beat McKnight, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to make it 3-1 Bluejays.
Connor Larson gained a point for the Mavs at No. 4 singles with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Quinn Dippel to make it 3-2.
But CU's Baker defeated Ellis, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and Anthony Rauschenbach won the longest match of the day, edging Frost 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 at No. 6 singles to cap the day.
The Mavericks showed great improvement from last year's 7-0 loss to Creighton, when the Mavs only won one singles set and lost all three doubles matches. This time around, the Mavs were a close doubles and singles match away from the final team score being in their favor.
The Mavericks are back in action on the road on April 4 at IUPUI.
