OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO men's tennis team dropped its first Summit League conference match to Western Illinois, 5-2, on Sunday at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.

The Mavericks are now 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Western Illinois improved to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in The Summit League.

WIU won two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Bradley Holt and Christoph Haertel won at No. 2 over Carlos Ramos Salazar and Conner Tieszen, 8-3. The No. 3 match finished next, with UNO evening things up after Matt Frost and John Ellis beat Mitch Granger and Max Cederkall, 8-3. But the Leathernecks took the decisive No. 1 match when Patrick Hammers and Ben Yue topped Peter Greteman and Eric McKnight, 8-6.

In singles play, Holt beat Ramos Salazar at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, to make it 2-0 Western Illinois. Tieszen won his second straight No. 1 singles match, beating Haertel, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to get the Mavs on the board. McKnight then finished off Hammers at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-7 ( 8-10), 6-1 to even up the match at 2-2.

But the Leathernecks won the final three matches to claim the victory. Yue beat Connor Larson at No. 4, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Granger topped Ellis at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1, and Cederkall beat Frost at No. 6 to finish the day, 6-0, 6-4.

Omaha is back on the court on Feb. 22 when North Dakota visits for a 6 p.m. match at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.
