Box Score RENO, Nev. – Junior guard CJ Carter hit a driving layup with .8 seconds left on the clock on Saturday, spurring the Omaha men's basketball team to an 82-80 win at Nevada at Lawlor Events Center. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 8-3 (0-0 Summit League), while the Wolf Pack drops to 4-7 (0-0 Mountain West). The victory stretched Omaha's win streak to five consecutive games.

Senior center John Karhoff led all scorers with 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field and a 9-for-12 effort at the free throw line. Four other Mavericks joined him in double figures: sophomore guard Devin Patterson (18), junior guard CJ Carter (13), senior guard Alex Phillips (12) and junior forward Mike Rostampour (11).

Phillips totaled his season-high 12 points with a career-best four 3-pointers made, while Carter added another three treys. Patterson also chipped in eight assists and three rebounds.  
Senior forward Matt Hagerbaumer led UNO on the glass with 10 rebounds, while Rostampour pulled down seven boards.

Nevada was paced by 24 points from Jerry Evans Jr., who was 8-for-10 from the floor with four 3-pointers. Deonte Burton finished with 22 points and eight rebounds, and Michael Perez had 17 points with four boards. Lucas Stivrins, making his first start, grabbed a team-best six rebounds.

As a team, Omaha outshot the Wolf Pack, 51 percent (25-of-49) to 45 percent (26-of-58). The Mavericks hit 11 threes for the day, which marked their second highest total of the season and the third time this year UNO has made 10 or more 3-pointers in a game. Omaha also won the battle on the boards, outrebounding Nevada, 32-31.

Omaha trailed much of the first 15 minutes before the Mavericks' 3-point shooting kicked into gear, as they sunk six triples for the half. Back-to-back threes from Phillips brought UNO back within one at 28-27, and another trey by Carter tied it at 30-30. Nevada tied it at 32-all before Rostampour pitched in two free throws and a jumper, and the Wolf Pack got close again at 36-35 with a Burton three. Phillips -- hitting his third triple of the half to go 3-for-3 from long range -- pushed it to 39-35, but Evans Jr. responded immediately with another 3-pointer. Another pair of foul shots from Rostampour pushed Omaha to a 41-38 lead, and it was Evans Jr. again who hit another three with 34 seconds left in the first half, making it 41-41 by the break.

Rostampour opened the second stanza with three from the top of the key, and a Karhoff jumpshot with another 3-pointer from Carter spurred the Mavericks to a 52-47 lead three minutes in. The second half saw seven ties and 10 lead changes, and Omaha went up by as much as nine with a 74-63 margin at 6:27. Burton single-handedly trimmed it to 74-70, and free throws by Perez and Cole Huff knotted the score at 74-74 before an Ali Fall jumper put the Wolf Pack up by two.

The Mavericks tied it at 76-all on free throws from Patterson, and two more foul shots by Karhoff made it 78-76 with 1:36 to go. Karhoff then fouled Perez, who made both of his shots at the line, and a Burton layup gave Nevada an 80-78 advantage with 56 seconds left. Karhoff then dumped in a shot with 40 seconds remaining to tie it again at 80-80, and after a missed Burton jumper, Hagerbaumer grabbed the rebound. Patterson brought it down the court, and it was Carter, driving in for a layup with an assist from Patterson with .8 seconds to go, who sealed Omaha's win over Nevada, 82-80.

Omaha returns to action on Friday, Dec. 20, traveling to Minnesota for a game televised on Big Ten Network.
