OMAHA, NEB. – The UNO women's tennis team hosted its third consecutive home match Wednesday afternoon, falling to Arkansas-Little Rock 7-0. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 1-3 on the season.
In doubles action, seniors
Kelsie Olson and
Heather Hottman started off the match at No. 1 against the Trojans, eventually falling to Viktoria Plyuta and Yana Kakovkina, 8-2.
Despite a strong showing in the No. 2 spot, freshmen
Jacqueline Baude and
Rachel Pierson dropped the set 8-3 to Michaela McShane and Veronique Luksich. At No. 3 doubles, senior
Caitlin Christy paired up with freshman
Alex Tran to pull off three games, but Alina Kolegova and Nina Yates took the match, 8-3.
In singles action, Tran had a strong showing at No. 1 by taking the match to a third set before dropping the final decision 7-5, 3-6, 6-10 to Plyuta. UALR's Luksich then came out firing at No. 2 singles, taking the match over Olson, 6-0, 6-1.
Junior
Lindsay Weideman fought hard at the No. 3 spot, pulling games in both sets before falling just short at 2-6, 4-6 to Kakovkina. Pierson started in the No. 4 spot against McShane, who earned the win by a score of 6-2, 6-0.
Baude competed at No. 5 singles but was defeated by Yates, who claimed the win at 6-3, 6-2. In the final match of the afternoon, Christy dropped both matches 6-0, 6-0 to Kolegova.
Nebraska Omaha returns to the courts on Friday, Feb. 24, hosting future Summit League foe North Dakota. The match is slated for 6 p.m. at Hanscom Tennis Center.
