OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team closed its weekend slate Saturday evening, falling 3-1 to Western Illinois by set scores of 28-26, 24-26, 20-25, 17-25 at Sapp Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 6-18 (1-11 Summit League), while the Leathernecks improve to 10-14 (4-9 Summit League).
Freshman
Michaela Schimmer starred for the Mavericks with her second career triple-double on a team-leading 12 kills, 16 digs and 22 assists, along with two aces and a block. Schimmer has accounted for the last two triple-doubles in Maverick history, with the most recent otherwise coming in 1999.
Senior
Natalie Ebke finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, and redshirt freshman
Bailey Baxter's double-double came on 29 assists and 13 digs.
Freshman
Kelley Wollak added 11 kills and three blocks, while sophomore
Jessy Schroedter tied Schimmer for the team lead in kills with 12 of her own, as well as three blocks.
Redshirt freshman
Valerie Hecht had a solid outing as well, posting nine kills and a team-best four blocks, and freshman
Megan Schmale recorded seven kills and four stops as well. Defensively, senior
Amy Roberts led the way with 21 digs.
Western Illinois was paced by four players with double-figure kill efforts: Ann Miller (19), Samantha Fournier (19), Heather Smith (12) and Katie Hosteng (10). Miller and Fournier each tallied double-doubles, as Miller had 22 digs, and Fournier had 16.
WIU setter Sarah Fetter finished with 54 assists in helping the Leathernecks to a .293 team hitting percentage to edge UNO's .219. As a team, UNO outblocked Western Illinois, 8-2.
Omaha returns to action next weekend, traveling to Oakland on Friday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. (CT) and Fort Wayne on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. (CT). Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com.
