MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois scored just 2:22 into overtime, giving the Leathernecks a 1-0 win over the Omaha women's soccer team on Friday night in Summit League action.
The Mavericks fell to 3-12 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Western Illinois improved to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in league action. The Mavericks are in fourth place in the conference standings with nine points.
After 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, Jordan Walgren picked a fortunate time to score her fourth goal of the season, heading home a rebound after Jennika Myers' shot hit the crossbar. The goal ended the match, as well as the Mavs' two-game winning streak.
Western Illinois outshot UNO 25-10 overall and 9-7 in shots on frame. The Mavs held the advantage in shots on goal in the first half, 5-4. But the Leathernecks outshot UNO in overtime, 3-0, and Katie Condon hit the cross bar just 53 seconds into overtime, nearly finishing the game.
Meaghan Clark made eight saves for the Mavs.
Danielle Archuleta had four shots on goal to lead UNO.
