LAMONI, Iowa—The UNO cross country team won the Yellowjacket Classic hosted by Graceland on Saturday. It was the Mavericks' first win of the year.
UNO earned 40 points and was led by Junior Amanda Vorthmann who finished 1-2 with teammate Kristin Rogers.
Vorthmann finished first for the Maverick for the fifth straight competition, this time finishing with a time of 18:36. Rogers' posted a time of 19:29. Nicole Behm finished third for the Mavs and eighth overall with a time of 20:11. Right behind, freshman Mikayla Peck crossed the finish line with a time of 20:13. Rounding out the top five for the Mavs was freshman Ashley Kildow who came in 20th place finish with a time of 20:46.
The Mavericks sent seven runners to the course in Lamoni including sophomore Kayla Fenske and freshman Lydia Martin. Fenske finished the race in 21st place with a time of 20:48 while Martin finished the race in 28th place with a time of 21:22.
The Mavericks were best out of a field of eight teams. Central Methodist was second with 80 team points, and St. Ambrose University, with 87 points, was third.
UNO will have a week off before returning to action on November 5th at the University of Sioux Falls Independent Championship in Harrisburg, S.D. The race begins at 10 a.m.
