FAYETTE, Iowa - The Mavericks broke a 3-3 tie with nine runs in the eighth inning of game two Thursday to complete a doubleheader sweep at Upper Iowa. Nebraska-Omaha (23-9) took the opener, 9-1 in five innings and then got the night cap, 12-3 in eight innings.

#Kristi Meneely hit a home run in each of the two game and Treightin Yates# hit a three-run shot in the first game. She went 3 for 4 that game with four RBI.

Meneely led off the second inning of game one with a solo shot and then Yates drove in #Emma Wright# with a single. Meneely then scored on an error in the third to give UNO a 3-0 lead.

The Peacocks loaded the bases in the fourth off three singles. They then drew a walk to bring in their only run of the game.

#Beth Haley# went the distance in the game, allowing four hits and the one run as she improved to 9-2.

Six insurance runs in the fifth inning envoked the eight-run rule and ended the game early. #Kristin Wellwood#, #Lindsey Slocum and Alli Hukill# all hit doubles and Yates hit her three-run shot.

The Peacocks struck first in the second game, getting a run in the bottom of the first. #Katelyn Hinton# then drove in a run with a single in the top of the second to tie it.

Upper Iowa got two more in the third and then Wright tied the game with a two-run double in the sixth.

A scoreless seventh led the game into extra innings where the Mavs exploaded for nine runs in the eighth. Meneely hit a solo homer and then five more hits and three UIU errors led to the rest of the runs. Slocum and Hinton each had two-RBI hits.

Slocum pitched the final six innings in relief, earning the win and improving to 9-2. She allowed three hits and no runs as she struck out 11.

The Mavs will resume MIAA action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fort Hays State in a doubleheader.
