Mavs Stay Hot With Victory Over Broncos

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO men's tennis team made it three victories in a row with a 7-2 win over the Broncos of Hastings College on Saturday evening at Hanscom Park Tennis Center. The Mavs swept the Broncos in doubles while having similar success in the singles competition. Hastings fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss.

Chase Petersen and Drew Mercier, the No. 1 doubles team for the Mavericks, took care of the Broncos' pairing, 8-2. This doubles competition victory moves Chase Petersen and Drew Mercier to 3-1 as a team; with the only loss coming to NCAA Division I Creighton. The No. 2 doubles team, Jon McQuistan and Eric McKnight, made sure to follow Chase Petersen and Drew Mercier's victory with one of their own as they disposed of the Broncos' pairing, 8-5.

In the singles competition, the Mavs faced a tougher challenge as Andrew Lescelius fell in a close one to Brian Freeman of Hastings, 6-2, 6-7 (10-6). UNO made sure of the victory as Peter Greteman came through with a win over Andrew Huber, 7-5, 7-4. Drew Mercier improved his overall record to 6-3 as he defeated his opponent, 6-0, 6-2.

The Mavericks stay home to face Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at 2 p.m. at Hanscom Park before heading to Hastings on March 25 where they will take on the Broncos once again.
