OMAHA, Neb. - Two seniors from the UNO hockey team have signed to play professional hockey. Defenseman #
Eddie DelGrosso and goaltender Jeremie Dupont# each signed amateur tryout agreements with separate clubs yesterday.
DelGrosso signed with the
Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, the top development team for the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. DelGrosso is UNO's career leader in scoring among defensemen, amassing 109 points during his four-year college career. The native of Las Vegas, Nev. led the Mavericks in scoring in each of the last two seasons. This year, he had seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points, one year after scoring a career-high 34 points. DelGrosso was named to the all-Central Collegiate Hockey Association First Team this season after earning second team honors last year.
Dupont signed with the
Bakersfield Condors, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Dupont appeared in 19 games for the Mavs this season, posting a record of 7-5-2, a goals-against average of 2.73 and a save percentage of .895. He also earned UNO's only shutout of the season. The native of Richmond Hill, Ontario started as a true freshman and played in 80 career games for the Mavs. He posted a record of 27-28-13 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage. He ranks third in career wins and fourth in career GAA. He was a two-time CCHA scholar athlete award winner.
The Mavericks recently completed their 13th season, compiling a record of 20-16-6. The season also marked the Mavs' final campaign in the CCHA, a year in which they went 13-12-3-2 and finished in sixth place. Beginning in 2010-2011, the Mavericks will be members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
