UNO Sees Streak End in Loss to Lopers

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks' winning streak is snapped at three as they fell to Nebraska-Kearney 6-3 on Friday night at Hanscom Park Tennis Center. The back and forth night led to a loss, which drops the Mavs to 4-2 while the Lopers jump to 5-3 after the victory.

Despite the loss, Drew Mercier and Chase Petersen continued their successes as they were triumphant at No. 1 doubles against Josh Raymond and John Steinke of UNK, 9-8. The win moved the pairing to 5-1 overall on the season in duals. However, the doubles competition ended poorly when John Diamantis and Ryan Schmidt fell in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

The singles competition started brightly for the Mavs when Drew Mercier won in No. 1 singles over Josh Raymond, 6-1, 6-3. Senior Chase Petersen won a close match in No. 3 singles as he downed his opponent, 6-5, 7-5. But it was not meant to be as Jon McQuistan lost in one of more more entertaining matches of the evening in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-0 (10-8).

UNO defeated Hastings College last week, and they look to do it again when they visit the Broncos in their second meeting of the season on March 25 at 4 p.m.
