Bridger Scores 1,000th Point But Mavs Drop Third S

OMAHA, Neb. - #Andrew Bridger# scored his 1,000th career point Wednesday night but the Mavericks made just five field goals in the second half as they fell to Northwest Missouri State, 83-70 at Sapp Fieldhouse and lost their third straight game for the first time this year.

Bridger led Nebraska-Omaha (14-6, 7-6 MIAA) with 13 points and he ended the night with 1,008 career points. That put him 27th in career scoring at UNO and he also became just the third player to score 1,000 points with at least 400 assists and 100 steals. He's currently fourth with 439 assists and seventh with 150 steals.

The Mavericks led by 12 at halftime, 43-31 and they shot 57 percent in that half. They went cold in the second half, shooting 20 percent (5 for 25) and made just one of 11 3-point attempts. They ended the game with a 40 percent effort from the field and 29 percent effort from long range.

The Bearcats (11-10, 6-8 MIAA) shot 48 percent as a team in the game after a 50 percent effort in the second half. They were 50 percent from 3-point range and 91 percent (19 of 21) from the free throw line.

#Jeff Martin# shared high-scoring honors with Bridger for the Mavs. He scored 13 with three of UNO's five made 3s. #Tyler Bullock scored 12 and Matt Newman# had 11 off the bench.

Bridger added seven assists and two steals. Martin led the Mavs with six rebounds but UNO was out-rebounded, 45-23 by the Bearcats.

The Bearcats opened the second half on a 12-2 run that cut the Mavericks lead to two. Layups by #Eugene Bain# and then Bridger pushed it back to six. The Bearcats then unleashed a 19-3 run to take a 62-52 lead. After a 5:08 scoreless drought for the Mavs, they broke that streak with a pair of free throws by Bullock and then they got within six on a layup by Bain at the 6:40 mark.

The Bearcats led by seven at the five minute mark and then after that there were 22 free throws taken between the two teams. NWMSU went 12 for 12 from the line during that time and UNO went 7 for 10.

Newman's free throw at 3:24 cut the lead to six but it was UNO's only points down the stretch until Martin hit a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left that only cut the lead to 11.

Girod Adams scored 26 with six made 3-pointers for the Bearcats and Elijah Allen had 23. He added 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Bridger became UNO's 31st member of the 1,000 point club with his fifth point of the game, a free throw at 18:52 of the second half. Dean Thompson (1980-84) and Calvin Kapels (2002-06) are the two other Mavs in the 1,000 points/400 assists/100 steals club.

The Mavericks will return to the road with a game Saturday at Emporia State at 7:30 p.m.
