OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks made it two wins in a row on Friday night at Hanscom Park Tennis Center against the Tigers of Doane College with an 8-1 victory. The Mavs improved to 3-1 while the Tigers remained winless at 0-3.
The Mavericks cruised through the evening but the No. 1 doubles pairing of
Chase Petersen and
Drew Mercier faced stiff competition in a 9-7 win. The No. 3 doubles team won as experienced senior
John Diamantis and freshman
Ryan Schmidt shut out the Tigers' pairing, 8-0.
In singles competition, freshman
Eric McKnight upped his win total to five with a victory over Ross Schulenberg of Doane, 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile,
Ben Williams of Papillion, Neb., gained his first victory of the season, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Matt Nohl moved above .500 while jumping to 3-2 on the season as he shut out Tony Bieck, 6-0, 6-0.
The Mavs stay home to face the Broncos of Hastings College next Saturday at 6 p.m.
