Ellen Thommes and Sara Kampschnieder# each reached double figures in kills and the Mavericks hit over .300 as a team but they fell, 3-1 to 11th-ranked Minnesota Duluth Friday afternoon in their first match at the Florida Southern Classic.
The Mavericks dropped their first match of the year and fell to 4-1 while UMD moved up to 4-1.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead then held off a third-set win by Nebraska-Omaha for the 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-15 victory.
Thommes had 13 kills and hit .545 with just one error while Kampschnieder hit .391 with 12 kills.

Brittany Hanssen led UNO above the net with three blocks each and Kelli Goeser led the defense with seven digs. Emily Myers# had 37 assists and five digs.
UNO hit .327 as a team but UMD topped that with a .344 average and had 14 more kills than the Mavericks.
Anna Zyvolski led the Bulldogs with 19 kills with a .405 attack percentage.
UNO will continue action in Florida against 14th-ranked FSC Friday at 6 p.m. Central.
