Softball Signs Two Recruits

OMAHA, Neb. – A pair of local high school standouts have signed national letters of intent to join the University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team, head coach Jeanne Scarpello announced today. Lindsay Redding and Molly Negrete will enroll at UNO in the fall of 2009.

Redding is a three-sport athlete at Papillion-LaVista (Neb.) High School where she lettered in softball, soccer and track, earning all-state and Class A first team accolades as a junior and senior in softball.

As a senior, the centerfielder batted .408 with 35 stolen bases and 33 runs scored as she helped lead the Monarchs to a runner-up finish at the 2008 Nebraska State Softball Tournament after winning back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

Negrete, the younger sister of current Maverick pitcher #Melissa Negrete#, will join the UNO softball team after a successful career at Millard South (Omaha, Neb.) High School under head coach Steve Kerkman.

The 5-8 outfielder and first baseman batted .412 with 42 hits and 24 runs scored in her senior campaign, earning Class A First Team honors from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star for the second straight year.

The Mavericks finished last year with a record of 44-13 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 20th straight season.
