OMAHA, Neb. - Strong showings in the freestyle sprints and breaststroke events helped propel the UNO Swimming and Diving team to a 157-123 win over the University of Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the HPER pool. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 2-1.

Sara Hallgren and Katey Howarter# finished with a time of 4:08.82, just .51 of a second behind Northern Iowa.
The Mavericks made their mark in the 200 yard freestyle by sweeping the top three spots. Senior #
Lindsey Kline# led the field with a time of 1:58.05, .4 seconds ahead of Hopkins. Junior #

Again, the Mavericks shone in the sprints by earning spots 1-3-4 in the “slash and dash”, the 50 freestyle. Howarter took first, freshman #
Colleen Klaiber was third and junior Lisa Elworth# was fourth. The top four spots were separated by just .73 of a second. UNO pulled a top three sweep in the 100 yard freestyle as Howarter, Hopkins and Elworth went 1-2-3.
The Mavericks solidified their standing by the 11
th event, the 200 yard breaststroke. Sophomore #
Laura Kemp# took first at 2:28.23. Murphy was second at 2:32.70 and
Katie Hubbell was third at 2:35.79.
Kemp and freshman #
Amy Bechdolt# went 1-3 in the 200 yard individual medley. Kemp finished at 2:13.46, four seconds better than UNI's Josie Itzen. Bechdolt posted a time of 2:17.99.
The Mavericks capped the meet with a first and third place in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Kline, Howarter, Zamecnik and Hopkins finished first in a time of 3:37.87.

Michelle Bene# was unopposed in both the 1- and 3-meter events.
UNO returns to the pool next Friday, Nov. 7 when it visits in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney at 5 p.m.
