Sara Kampschnieder and Ellen Thommes# combined for 47 kills to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha to a 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21) upset over seventh-ranked Washburn in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association volleyball action Wednesday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks, who defeated their second ranked opponent in less than a week, won their fourth-straight match, improving to 13-12 overall and 9-5 in the MIAA.
Washburn, which saw its 12-match winning streak snapped, fell to 26-3 overall and 11-3 in league action.
Goeser hit .381 in the match with 18 kills while adding three digs and two blocks.
Kampschnieder recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 11 digs.
Thommes tied a career-high with nine blocks while adding 12 kills on .281 hitting. As a team, the Mavericks held a commanding 13.5 to 3.0 edge in total team blocks.

Emily Myers# guided the Mavericks to a .224 hitting percentage while dishing out 45 assists and adding seven digs and five blocks.

Kayla Jansen# registered a season-high 33 digs in helping UNO gain an 88-84 advantage in digs for the match.
Senior #
Annie Rice# tied a career-high with four service aces. The Mavericks were not aced in the match and committed just four service errors, compared to nine for Washburn.
Washburn, which is ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA II South Central Region rankings, hit. .237 in the match and was led by Ashley Shepard and Mollie Lacy, who each notched 13 kills for the Lady Blues.
WU led from start to finish in the first set, racing out to a 15-5 lead while cruising to the 25-14 victory. Kampschnieder blasted five kills on .500 hitting to pace UNO in the opening frame.
Thommes blasted six kills on .429 hitting while adding a pair of blocks in the second set as UNO snapped Washburn's 17-set winning streak. Kampschnieder and Goeser each had five kills in the game. The Mavericks took an early 7-2 lead with a five-point run paced by three Kampschnieder kills and a pair by Thommes. The Lady Blues never got closer than three points as UNO eased to the 25-20 victory.
The Mavericks led throughout most of the third until a three-point run late in the game by Washburn tied the set at 20. UNO, however, closed out the set with a 5-1 run after three Kampschnieder kills and a pair of Washburn attack errors.
The Mavs went on an 8-2 run to break a 9-all tie in the fourth, building a 17-11 lead. UNO led 18-13 before a Maverick serving error brought the Lady Blues to within four. All-American Monica Meisner then reeled off five-straight points from the service line to give Washburn their first lead of the set 19-18. The Mavericks will take on their second top-10 team later this week when they travel to Emporia, Kan. for a 7 p.m. match at eighth-ranked and league-leading Emporia State on Saturday, Nov. 1.
