Appeared in 10 games, starting two…Earned his first career start in the outfield and scored his first career run against Jacksonville State (March 18)…Also started at Oakland (April 21), serving as the Mavericks’ designated hitter.

Lettered four years in baseball and basketball at Grand Island High School…Also earned two letters in football...Two-time all-conference selection at catcher for the Islanders’ baseball team…Three-time all-star and three-time all-state honorable mention pick…In his senior year, earned Class A all-state honorable mention recognition from the Omaha World-Herald and was a Class A Super State honorable mention pick for the Lincoln Journal Star...As a freshman, was a member of Grand Island’s state championship squad and also helped the team to a state runner-up finish and a district title as a junior…Played American Legion ball for Grand Island Home Federal, which won a state title…Named most valuable player of the Legion regional tournament…In basketball, was a four-year starter, a three-time all-state honorable mention honoree and a two-time all-conference award winner…Helped GIHS to a district basketball championship and a state tournament appearance as a junior…In his senior season, averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game…In football, was a member of the Islander squad that played in the state playoffs in his junior year…Graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and in the top six percent of his high school class of over 500 students…Member of the National Honor Society.
