A second-team all-class, all-state selection at Columbus Lakeview High School where he set school record with 1,446 points in his career...also was picked for the all-Class C1 team...averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for his career with the Vikings...helped lead team to 20-2 records as a junior and senior as team won state title in 2001 and was state runner-up in 2002 under Coach Jake Shadley...also was an academic all-state pick...also set school career marks for three-pointers with 114 and assists with 434 and season...set season record with 128 assists and holds the record with 6 three-pointers in one game...also lettered in track.

Birthdate is May 15, 1983...son of Roger Kapels...name is pronounced Cop-ohls...chose to attend UNO because of the players, coaches and atmosphere...has a brother, Clint, and a sister, Kaycee, who played basketball at Missouri-Kansas City.

"Calvin comes from a very succesfull high school program(Colombus Lakeview). His junior year they won the state tourney and his senior year they were runners up. Calvin is a versatile point guard/off guard who has a knack for making things happen at both ends of the floor. His strengths are rebounding from the guard position, ball handling/passing, and defending. He is a decent perimeter shooter who will improve with continued work and repetition."
