PHOENIX, Ariz. - Omaha Baseball plated four runs over the first two innings, highlighted by a two-run single from
Brody Sexton in the second, but the Arizona State Sun Devils closed out the three-game series with a 6-4 victory in Phoenix on Sunday.
Drew Borner opened the scoring in the first with an RBI walk that brought
Henry Zipay home for a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks added three more in the second, as Zipay delivered an RBI single to center before Sexton lined a two-run base hit to shallow right, scoring
Chase Diggins and Zipay to extend the advantage to 4-0.
The Mavericks (0-3) showed patience at the plate early, drawing six walks through the first three innings.
Arizona State (3-0) answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Brody Briggs.
Through five innings on the mound, starter
Sam Beck allowed three runs on five hits, striking out five and walking one.
The Sun Devils pulled within one at 4-3 after Dean Toigo opened the sixth with a solo home run, ASU's second of the afternoon, before tying the game at 4-4 entering the seventh.
Becket Zavorek broke open the tie with a single up the middle, driving in two runs to give the Sun Devils a 6-4 lead.
Diggins and Zipay collected two hits apiece, while Borner drove in two runs.

Oliver Mabee worked the final four innings for Omaha. Mabee was charged with the loss.
Omaha will face No. 24 Arizona in Tucson on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. CT.
