Baseball takes down Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Omaha Baseball defeated Big 12 foe Arizona 3-1 on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field, securing its first win of the 2026 season.

Omaha (1-3) broke through in the second inning when infielder Chase Diggins delivered a three-run double, scoring Mason Gaines, Hayden Lewis and Drew Borner to give the Mavericks a 3-0 lead over Arizona (0-4).

Diggins finished 2-for-4 with all three of Omaha's RBI.

On the mound, right-hander Maddox Meyer, a 2026 Summit League Player to Watch, turned in his best outing as a Maverick.

Meyer struck out 10 over six innings of work, allowing just two hits to earn the win.

Left-handed arm Nick Riggs recorded one out in relief, allowing one hit and one walk. Right-hander Carter Mick retired both batters he faced and struck out one. Fellow right-hander Michael Sall added a scoreless inning with two punchouts.

Arizona threatened in the bottom of the ninth when Jackson Forbes doubled to right field to score Beau Sylvester and cut the Wildcat deficit to 3-1.

To finish the night, with the bases loaded, Nate Moquin secured the save, allowing one run on two hits over one inning while striking out two.

Omaha travels to San Diego for the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament from Feb. 19-21. First pitch against BYU is set for 8 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 19.
