PHOENIX, Ariz. - Omaha Baseball put runners on base in every inning, but it was Arizona State that delivered Saturday's biggest hit as the Mavericks fell 11- 5 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Omaha (0-2) tied it 1-1 in the third inning on an RBI single by
Jackson Trout. Omaha left the bases loaded in the top of the third, then ASU answered with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the frame, including a grand slam by Nuu Contrades.
That was one of four home runs hit by Arizona State (2-0) on the day.
Omaha tacked on a run in the sixth inning when
Cardel Dick drove in
Joey Craig with a sacrifice fly.
The Mavericks then scored three times on consecutive RBI hits in the ninth.
Mason Gaines started the scoring in the ninth with an RBI single before
Eli Hoerner tripled to left center.
Hayden Lewis made it 11-5 with another single.
Trout had three of Omaha's 11 hits on the day, while Lewis had two singles.
Starting pitcher
Drew Iverson, a left-handed transfer from Wichita State, worked into the third inning and recorded the loss.
Omaha and Arizona State will wrap up their series with a 2:05 p.m. CT start Sunday.
