HOUSTON – Omaha volleyball closed out a three-match road trip with a 3-1 neutral site loss to San Diego State Saturday.
The Mavericks (2-3, 0-0 Summit) took the second set from the Aztecs (2-3, 0-0 Mountain West) with a score of 25-21. The two teams took it to extra points in the first with San Diego State winning with a score of 26-24. The third and fourth sets decided the match with scores of 25-16 and 25-22, respectively.
The Maverick defense tallied 13 total blocks and 45 digs. Junior middle blocker
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) recorded two solo blocks and assisted on six more. Senior outside hitter
Kali Jurgensmeier (Wahoo, Neb.) recorded 13 digs.
Jurgensmeier recorded 15 kills with a hitting percentage of .306. Senior outside
Morgan DeBow (Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore right side
Ella Tiarks (Treynor, Iowa) tallied 10 kills each.
The team's hitting percentage peaked in the second set at .357. It bottomed out in the third at .167.
Omaha heads back on the road next weekend for the Cyclone Invitational hosted by Iowa State. The Mavericks will face Saint Louis Saturday, Sep. 13 at 4 p.m. CT and Iowa State Sunday, Sep. 14 at 2 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
