Jurgensmeier's 19 kills leads Omaha to 3-1 win over Saint Louis

AMES, Iowa – Omaha volleyball finished Saturday on a high note, defeating Saint Louis in four sets (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21) at Hilton Coliseum to improve to 3-3 on the season.

The Mavericks controlled the net with 13.0 team blocks and saw three players record double-digit kills. Head coach Matt Buttermore's squad ended the match on a 4-0 scoring run after the Billikens had closed within one late in the fourth.

Senior outside Kali Jurgensmeier (Wahoo, Neb.) paced the red and black with a season-high 19 kills on .360 hitting while adding three blocks. Junior middle Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) followed with 10 kills and five blocks, while freshman outside Faith Venable (Lincoln, Neb.) tallied 11 kills, three solo blocks and a pair of service aces. Junior middle Torrey Tkach (Oxford, Miss.) added a spark with four kills at a .429 clip.

At setter, junior Davis Guetterman (Louisburg, Kan.) directed the offense with 22 assists and nine digs, while sophomore Julia Owens (Tempe, Ariz.) chipped in 20 assists. Defensively, liberos sophomore Sarah Galligan (Omaha, Neb.) anchored the back row with 18 digs and junior Makayla Tiahrt (Sioux Falls, S.D.) contributed two.

The Mavericks took the opening set 25-17 behind five kills from Huss and a balanced block presence. After Saint Louis answered in a back-and-forth second frame, Omaha regrouped to dominate the third, hitting .326 as a team and forcing long rallies that swung momentum. In the fourth, the Billikens trimmed the deficit to 21-20, but Omaha responded with a decisive 4-0 run capped by back-to-back kills from Jurgensmeier.

Omaha (3-3) concludes play at the Cyclone Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 14, against Iowa State at 2 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
