HOUSTON – Omaha volleyball dropped a neutral site match against LSU, 3-0, on Thursday.
The Mavs (2-1) came out swinging against the Tigers (2-2) and pushed the first set into extra points. LSU won 27-25 then took the second set 25-23 and the third 25-17.
In the first set, the lead changed 10 times and the two teams were tied 19 times. Sets two and three saw less back-and-forth with only five lead changes in the second and one in the third. Overall, the Mavericks and Tigers were tied 32 times.
Omaha recorded 37 kills with a hitting percentage of 23.2%.
Kali Jurgensmeier led the way with 13 kills, but
Emily Huss led in percentage with 60% and zero attack errors. Makayla Tiahart recorded a pair of aces for her second game of the season with multiple aces.
On the defense,
Celia Spilker assisted on a game-high six blocks and the Mavericks tallied 28 digs.
Emma Nash made her collegiate debut for Omaha and played in all three sets.
The Mavs are back in action tomorrow night to play Houston on the second night of the Flo Hyman Classic. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
