OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha men's soccer fell in its third-straight match of the season Sunday as the Mavericks were bested 3-0 by Utah Valley at Caniglia Field in the Mavs' 2025 home opener.
- Omaha goalkeeper senior Cole Stewart (Lee's Summit, Mo.) was sprung into action in the eighth minute with a heroic one-handed save after a yellow card resulted in a free kick for the Wolverines.
- Omaha out-shot Utah Valley 2-1 in the first 15 minutes, though Omaha went without a shot-on-goal during that stretch.
- In the 22nd minute, sophomore defender Simon Guardiero (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) booted the first shot-on-goal for the Mavs as he attempted to bend it in the left corner. Kolby Sessions was there for the stop for Utah Valley.
- Five minutes later, Utah Valley was awarded a penalty opportunity, however after video review the call was overturned to a drop ball for Omaha.
- In the 36th minute a set piece opportunity just outside the box was booted high above the crossbar, giving Omaha a 5-3 edge in total shots with 10 minutes to go in the opening period.
- Sophomore forward Mikey Stukenholtz (Gretna, Neb.) laced a shot in the 39th minute that was barely saved by Sessions as Omaha looked to get on the board.
- Omaha was unable to convert two corner kicks in the first half as Utah Valley controlled 57 percent of the possession in the opening 45 minutes.
- Utah Valley opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Isaac Emojong found Mason Abdella to make it a 1-0 match.
- 12 minutes later, Gilles Aurelien booted a cross to give Utah Valley its second goal of the night after two-straight stops by Stewart.
- The scoring ended in the 83rd minute when Lewis Knecht placed the penalty on the right side of Stewart.
- The sides combined for seven yellow cards, 12 corner kicks and 21 total shots.
